Canyoneering is unforgiving. Plan accordingly.

Rappelling accidents, flash floods, heat illness, and stranding are the leading causes of canyon incidents on the Colorado Plateau. There is no cell service in most of these drainages, and Grand County search and rescue is volunteer-staffed — response into a canyon bottom can take hours. Route beta on this site describes conditions as we found them; anchors get replaced, potholes fill and drain, and access roads wash out. Confirm current conditions and permit requirements with the managing agency before every trip, and turn around early rather than late. Nothing here substitutes for training, a competent partner, and your own judgment.
